2024 DL Twins Jacob & Jerod Smith Looking To See Notre Dame Again
As they were making the rounds in the Northeast, checking in on Class of 2023 commits, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and some of his assistants made it a point to get down to Loomis Chaffee in Windsor, Conn.
Freeman made the trip along with defensive coordinator Al Golden and defensive line coach Al Washington to check in on 2024 defensive linemen Jacob Smith and his twin brother Jerod Smith.
“It means a lot to know that they take a lot out of their time to come see everybody,” Jacob told Irish Sports Daily. “To know I was one of them means a lot.”
The message from the Irish has been clear since they offered the brothers back in July.
“Obviously that they want us and that they're going to be around,” Jacob said of that message.
Jacob is a 6-foot-5, 225-pound edge prospect while Jerod is a 6-foot-4, 260-pound interior target.
They’ve gone on the record multiple times saying they have a strong preference of playing together at the next level and fully expect to do so.
In addition to Notre Dame, the brothers each have offers from schools like Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Penn State, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Boston College and Kentucky among several others.
The Irish check two major boxes for the Smiths.
“They're just as good academically as they are at football,” Jacob said.
They took an unofficial visit to South Bend over the summer and Jacob said the next step is to return with their parents.
They don’t have a date picked out yet, but he said, “but we'll definitely plan on one.”
There are no other visits locked in at the moment, but they plan on narrowing their lists down pretty soon.
