2024 OL Anthonie Knapp Talks Notre Dame Offer
Clearly, Joe Rudolph wasn’t kidding when he spoke with Anthonie Knapp prior to Knapp’s visit to Notre Dame on Friday.
When he was the offensive line coach at Virginia Tech, Rudolph extended an offer to Knapp, a 2024 offensive lineman form Georgia.
“What he said is that he would recruit me anywhere,” Knapp told Irish Sports Daily, adding that he was extremely humbled and grateful to hear that.
And Rudolph backed that up by extending a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-4, 260-pounder.
“It's definitely something I'm very proud of, I worked very hard for and I'm very grateful for,” the Roswell High School standout said. “It was amazing.
“The visit was amazing. It was very personable. I showed up, watched the practice, took a tour around the campus, met all the coaches. It was very personable. I loved it. The campus is amazing. It's hard to find a campus that's like that. It's very pretty. I like how it keeps its heritage.”
Knapp adds Notre Dame to an offer sheet that also includes Penn State, North Carolina, NC State, Duke, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest among others.
He was excited to reconnect with Rudolph in South Bend.
“It was amazing because the last time I saw him, he was in Orange and Maroon, but seeing him at a new school was great,” Knapp said. “He's running a new offensive scheme, dealing with new offensive players, offensive linemen. It's just cool to watch though.”
Knapp feels honored to be one of the first offensive linemen to visit Notre Dame since Rudolph’s hiring and wasn’t shy in talking about how the Irish compare to other programs.
“You go to a place like Notre Dame and it's just a better football program,” he said.
Knapp said he will “definitely” be back.
Prior to the visit, he said he was hoping Notre Dame was a school that could check all of the boxes.
Coming out of the visit, it sounds like there’s a chance it is.
“I'm still thinking about it, but I definitely liked what I saw.”
