2024 CB Samuel Madu Talks Notre Dame Stop
Samuel Madu was only at Notre Dame for a few hours, but that was enough for the 2024 New York cornerback to get an understanding of what makes the place special.
“It went really well,” the 6-foot-1, 175-poumder told Irish Sports Daily after Friday’s visit to South Bend.
“I got to talk to the defensive coordinator. I got to watch team practice, see the campus, the facilities. It went really well.”
Irish defensive coordinator Al Golden was impressed enough by the Archbishop Stepinac standout to what to see more.
“He plans on coming to see me and watching me work live, which I think is really good,” Madu explained.
Madu, who is originally from Nigeria, hopes Golden can make it to one of his school’s first open sessions later this month.
“I'll be able to show him my athleticism and how fluid my hips and how quick and easy I can flip my hips,” he explained.
Madu currently holds offers from schools like Penn State, Michigan State, Duke, Boston College, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Minnesota and Missouri among others.
During his trip, Madu was impressed with how the Irish worked.
“I thought practice was pretty smooth,” he said. “For a walkthrough, it was pretty competitive. They're all just trying to get each other better, which I really like.
“It's something you should look for when making a college decision. You want to be at a college that is going to develop you into the player you want to be.”
Madu, who visited Pitt before Notre Dame and Michigan State after, was also impressed with the South Bend surroundigs.
“The campus actually blew my mind; just how clean the place was and how kept everything was,” he said. “It was like a different planet. Something I definitely hadn't seen before, which I found very cool, very unique.”
Coming into the trip, he was intrigued by the Irish.
“Their culture and how religious they are, being that I come from religious family,” he said. “My mom, my family are Christian, so that’s really good. They're into religion and stuff, so I really like that. And obviously a great academic school, great football, national TV.”
Coming out of it, he believes it’s a place he could see himself.
“It was awesome. I really enjoyed it. It's definitely a place I could see myself playing at, great opportunity. It is a great place. It can set me up for my life after football. I can see myself in the corner room for sure.”
