James Flanigan‍ has been back to Notre Dame a couple times since the recruiting process started and the 2025 Wisconsin tight end will be back in South Bend again in a couple weeks.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder – and son of the former Irish linebacker by the same name – will return for the Irish’s BBQ event at the end of the month.

“We're going out to a couple other places, but then we'll end at Notre Dame for the barbecue,” says Flanigan.

He was last in town for the Irish’s spring game in April and is looking forward to this trip.

“I think it'll be more continuing to build the relationships with the coaches and this time, meeting some of the recruits and talking to them some more,” the Green Bay native says.

“It's just good to see what other people think about Notre Dame and then potentially if I do decide to go there, I'm already acquainted with some my fellow recruits.”

Flanigan says he keeps in regular contact with Notre Dame offensive coordinator Gerad Parker.

“It's been good,” he says. “We've been talking every couple weeks, just continuing to check in every now and then. It's been good.”

Flanigan also plays defense and there has been some talk from others about him potentially playing that side of the ball in college. He hasn’t given it much thought, at least not yet.

“I still have two more seasons, so it's still a possibility,” he says.

Before Notre Dame, Flanigan will travel from coast to coast seeing schools like Stanford, Michigan and Penn State during the brief open period.

“I think it's just good to see the options I have. I've really only been to Wisconsin and Notre Dame so far in my process, so I need to get to as many places as I can to see how the school is and everything like that.”
