Now-2024 CB Kevyn Humes Talks Reclass, Notre Dame & More
Kevyn Humes felt he was ready and once those closest to him said they felt he was ready too, the decision to reclassify from the 2025 recruiting class to 2024 was an easy one for the Maryland cornerback.
“It was really just my coaches and my mother telling me that they believe I'm ready and then going along with my own intuition, knowing that I believe in myself more than anybody,” Humes says. “It was just a no-brainer to me.”
Playing an elite high school schedule in 2023 against national powers like Buford, St. John Bosco and Mater Dei among others, helped as well.
“I dominated against the best competition,” he says. “It can't get no harder than that at the high school level, so I'm ready for college level.”
Humes made the announcement last week along with the scheduling of four official visits. He’ll make trips to Syracuse, Penn State, Notre Dame and Florida on consecutive weekends from Jan. 12th to Feb. 2nd in advance of National Signing Day on Feb. 7th.
Humes isn’t ruling out squeezing in some additional official visits somehow, but at this point, it looks like he’ll be choosing from one of those four.
“They've all been pushing and recruiting me the hardest when I was 2025 and now that I've reclassed to 2024, so it was a no-brainer,” he says.
“It's going to be a little stressful, but hard decisions, to me, they're hard, but I end up making the best choice, so I'm not worried.”
Humes says the Irish have shown as much attention as anybody led by Marcus Freeman, Al Golden and Mike Mickens.
“They've been recruiting me the hardest,” says Humes. “I would say out of the four schools, they've been pushing and recruiting me the hardest. Coach Freeman, Coach Golden and Coach Mickens have all been on my line like crazy.”
Humes made a couple stops in South Bend this year, including for a home game in the fall, and is looking forward to his return.
“I really want to learn more about how I'll fit into the program as a freshman, where they would put me in,” he says. “Do they expect me to play as a freshman or do they want me to watch? Mainly, how they plan to use me.”
