Elite 2025 CB Devin Williams Previews Notre Dame Return
After a pair of visits to South Bend, Devin Williams said he was serious about Notre Dame.
Now that the elite 2025 Georgia cornerback is set to return for this Irish’s Junior Day this weekend, that is obvious.
“The coaches are recruiting me really, really hard right now,” Williams said. “There's just no place like Notre Dame. They had a good run this year. It just feels like a family up there, so I definitely want to get back.”
Williams said he’s regular communication with Irish cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens as well as head coach Marcus Freeman.
Mickens has made a strong impression already.
“Great dude,” Williams sailor of Mickens. “He knows what he's talking about. I feel like I could learn a lot under him; a lot of different techniques under him. He's just a down to earth guy. He's just like us.”
The pitch to Williams, who has dozens of offers from major colleges across the country, from the Irish is a simple one.
“They think Notre Dame is different,” Williams said. “It's a different college experience. It's empowering. They do a lot of things different around there, and as you can see, they produce Benjamin Morrison, Cam Hart, they can produce corners.”
Williams was at Notre Dame for a camp last summer and returned for the Ohio State game in September. He isn’t looking to learn anything specific during his third visit.
“I'm just looking to see the same energy from the coaches,” he said. “They're excited to have me up there, have a little bit of fun, hang out with the coaches, get to see what they're really, really like.”
Williams was at Auburn this past weekend and is set to visit Alabama next month. Obviously, things have changed a bit with the Crimson Tide recently,
“Oh my God,” Williams said. “It's crazy. Nick Saban retiring. It's crazy. I'm not going to lie. It's crazy to see. He's been coaching for so long, six national championships. That's the crazy news to hear. The whole world's talking about it.”
Williams is also thinking about potential visits to LSU and Florida.
The Buford High School star doesn’t have a timeline for a final decision just yet.
“Not right now. It's been changing. I might commit maybe earlier. I was thinking summer, but I might commit even earlier to secure my spot.”
