2026 QB Troy Huhn Ready for First Look at Notre Dame
Notre Dame extended an offer to 2026 Mission Hills (Calif.) quarterback Troy Huhn on Thursday and it’s one that had been in the works over the last month for the 6-foot-3, 195-pounder.
In January, Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and quarterbacks coach Gino Guidguli made the trip to California to watch Huhn throw.
“It was really cool,” Huhn told ISD. “They are great people and great coaches. Throwing in front of them was a cool experience and I thought I threw pretty well, too.”
Huhn did throw it well and his performance left a lasting impression on the Irish staff, including Guidugli, who has been in contact with the San Marcos native over the last month.
“Coach Gino and I are building a strong relationship and we’re going to continue to build it,” said Huhn. “He’s a great coach, great guy and really relatable. He’s very smart as well. He knows how to get it done.”
As a sophomore, Huhn got it done on the field as well as he threw for 1,623 yards and 16 touchdowns, but he’s not satisfied as his offseason program is in full swing. Huhn’s focus is on improving his athleticism, while also being the smartest player on the field.
“In the physical part, I’m definitely trying to get my speed up to be able to extend plays this season as well as getting stronger and adding some weight,” Huhn explained. “The mental part is also a big part of it. I’m trying to watch film as much as I can every day. I’m trying to fix up the little things that will make me perfect for next season.”
The recruiting spotlight is fully on Huhn as he holds offers from coast-to-coast and the attention did catch him off guard.
“It caught me a little bit by surprise,” Huhn stated. “I feel like I worked hard to get these opportunities. I’m very grateful for everyone so far. It’s crazy, but a great experience. I’m very lucky.”
Notre Dame offering might not have been a complete surprise, but the opportunity to put on the blue and gold is something Huhn wanted.
“It meant a lot,” Huhn said of receiving the offer. “Notre Dame is a very historical school. Even if I don't go there, I’m going to be really glad I was able to visit it to see Touchdown Jesus and see the campus. Outside of football, it’s a great school, but with football, they always do good. They develop quarterbacks and get them to the next level.”
Huhn will get his first look at the Notre Dame program next month as he’ll make a Midwest swing.
“I’ll be out to Penn State on March 23rd and 24th,” stated Huhn. “I’ll head over to Michigan on the 25th and 26th. Then I’ll be at Notre Dame on the 27th and 28th. I locked that in. I’m very excited to get out to see the campus and meet Coach Freeman. It’s going to be a great experience.”
It might be early in his process, but Huhn already has a few details he’s looking forward to experiencing at each school.
“There are a few things I’m looking for,” explained Huhn. “It’ll be good to see how Coach Gino coaches his players and sit down in those meetings to see what it’s like. Meeting the head coach is important so I can get a feel for him. Location and education are also important.”
It’s also worth noting Huhn has a sister playing basketball at Miami (OH) and another sister set to play softball at Iowa State. Location is a factor Huhn isn’t overly worried about as he simply wants to play football.
“Distance isn’t a factor for me,” said Huhn. “I’ll go anywhere to play ball.”
