2026 Lakota West (Ohio) linebacker Cam Thomas‍ will hit the road early on Thursday as he’ll be back in South Bend to catch Notre Dame’s first spring practice.

It will be his third trip to Notre Dame in the last year and he’s excited to see the Irish get some work.

“I’m definitely looking forward to getting back,” Thomas told ISD. “I have a lot of interest, so I’m excited to get back.”

As a 2026 prospect, the NCAA makes it hard for consistent communication to happen, but Thomas has done his best to stay in touch with the staff and that includes having conversations on his two previous visits.

“They stopped by the school a few times,” said Thomas, who attends the same high school as 2024 Notre Dame signee Taebron Bennie-Powell. “We’ve been staying in touch as much as you can. I’ve spoken with Dre (Brown), Chad (Bowden), (Mike) Mickens and (Al) Golden a little bit. It’s just hard to even talk to people with the rules.

“They’re easy to connect with and be comfortable around. They’re good people.”

The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder holds over 20 offers as a sophomore and will set out on an aggressive spring visit schedule to get a better feel for schools as he hopes to start narrowing down his options.

“I’ll be going to Notre Dame, Miami (OH), Pittsburgh, Ohio State, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Louisville, Michigan, Tennessee, Illinois and Wisconsin,” Thomas stated. “It’s almost my junior year and I have to start cutting down, but also seeing where is the best fit. I want to connect with the coaches and players.”

Thomas is also focused on putting in the work this offseason and there is a significant focus on adding strength.

“I just want to get stronger and stronger,” explained Thomas. “I’m working on getting faster and more explosive, but my emphasis has been on getting stronger. I think getting faster naturally comes, but strength is my focus.”

Off the field. Thomas feels ready to tackle the recruiting process and has a good grasp of how to handle it. He saw how his former teammate Malik Hartford (Ohio State), Ben Minich (Notre Dame), Bennie-Powell and several others handled their process, so he’s not going in blind.

“Just how they act and what they do on and off the field,” said Thomas when asked what he learned from seeing others go through their recruitments. “You see them almost every day, so it almost naturally comes to you. It’s cool having them play with you and be friends with them.

“I just block out all the noise. I’m not really too worried about all that because when you’re on the field, none of that matters. I’m just staying as humble as I can. I can’t forget I’m still just a sophomore. It’s naturally easy because that’s how I was raised. I don’t ever let it get to my head because I have a lot of people who can humble me really quick.”
