2026 WR Connor Salmin Talks Notre Dame Offer, What's Next
Connor Salmin and Mike Brown had been going back and forth about trying to find a date that fit for the 2026 Virginia receiver to come to South Bend that when the Notre Dame receivers coach called on Wednesday, Salmin was expecting to continue the discussion about dates.
“He stopped by our school like a week and a half, two weeks ago,” Salmin said of Brown. We stayed in contact a few times in between just about trying to get there for a camp on either June 2nd or a later date.”
An elite track star, Salmins has the Virginia State Track Championships on May 31st and June 1st, so a trip to South Bend to work out on June 2nd may not be ideal.
But this time, potential visit dates weren’t the priority.
Brown was calling to offer the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder a scholarship.
“I was really honored,” Salmin said. “I was a little bit surprised just because we were talking about getting there for a camp and I was thinking maybe if I went there and performed super well and did my best I could maybe have a shot. I'm really blessed that they offered. I wasn't expecting it, but it's really exciting for me and my family because they're a top five program.
“He said their coaching staff, the head coach, the offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach and him talked about it and they liked my film and thought my speed was really impressive and I could catch the ball well and use my wingspan to go get balls that are a little bit out of other people's reach, and they really liked that, so that's why they offered.”
The Woodgrove High School standout has built an impressive offer sheet that also includes schools like Georgia, Penn State, North Carolina, Duke, West Virginia, Virginia and Virginia Tech among others.
Currently ranked number one in the state in the 200 meters, Salmin has clocked personal bests of 4.4 in the 400, 10.50 in the 100 and a 21.18 in the 200.
The speedster was excited about adding the Irish to his offer list.
“They've been a Top 25 program in the country for a long time now, and their academics are great,” he said. “I think I'm looking to do Business in college, and their Business program is one of the top in the country, so great academics and great sports. It's really interesting for me and my family to look at that. I want to learn a little bit more about them, of course, but it's definitely attractive to us.”
Salmin still doesn’t have a date to get to South Bend for a visit, but is hoping to soon.
“I'd love to meet the coaches that I haven't met and get to know Coach Brown more and really just start building that relationship,” he said. “Obviously, I've never been there before, so just see the campus and see their facilities and look around and just see everything and see what it's like there.”
He’s already made stops at Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and North Carolina among others.
“It's been a great experience just being able to see all these different places,” he said.
Salmin has some other schools in mind for visits this spring and summer, including LSU, Georgia and Clemson among others.
“Obviously, I'm not going to be able to make it everywhere, it's not possible,” he said. “But I'd love to get to as many places as I could, meet as many coaches as I can and start building those relationships.”
Relationships are going to be huge when it comes to picking one school over the rest for Salmin.
“Obviously, having good academics is really important, but I think good relationships with the coaches and not just the position coach with the head coach and all the coaches that are surrounding you, the offensive coordinator. I think being able to see yourself fitting in with the players and being able to actually talk to a coach and have a good relationship with that coach, I think is really important for me.”
