Film Don't Lie | Cam Herron
There was some debate whether or not Notre Dame was going to take a fourth offensive lineman in their 2025 recruiting class, but one name that was on the radar as that fourth player was in-state prospect Cameron Herron. He clearly wanted a Notre Dame offer and went to Irish Invasion to try and earn it.
Though he had a great performance at the camp, Joe Rudolph and the staff were undecided on adding another OL to the class at that time. They changed their view on it this fall and targeted Herron, who was committed to Iowa.
One of the most athletic prospects at the position this cycle, Herron has the versatility to play multiple positions up front and fits the mold of players who have thrived under Rudolph at both Wisconsin and Notre Dame.
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 275
Projected Position: Interior offensive line
ISD Grade: 90 (4-star)
National Average Grade: 88.1 (4-star)
What he does best:
He’s a finisher. He wants to dominate his opponent and put him on the ground as much as possible.
Herron brings violence to the field. He has a good punch and wins with technique and tenacity rather than simply overwhelming with this size.
I love everything I see from him as an athlete. He grew up playing multiple sports and previously wrestled, but it’s his feet and overall mobility that really jumps out. He plays with good knee bend and mirrors well in pass protection. He also can get out in space and be a weapon as a puller.
What he needs to improve:
Much like Ashton Craig and Anthonie Knapp, Herron is going to have to add a good amount of weight when he gets to Notre Dame. He has the frame to get a lot bigger. His arm length was measured at 35 inches this past summer. I’d label him a slim 270+ at the moment, but he should be able to fill out nicely.
In general I think he plays with good leverage, but his pad level can get too high when firing out as a center.
What’s his ceiling?
Herron’s athleticism is a huge asset. His ability to block in space as a puller and reach block defensive tackles with quick feet are what makes him a very good prospect, but he can also be great in pass protection as well.
I think he’s ultimately going to end up as a center with the flexibility to play some guard too. My comp for him is a prospect Notre Dame offensive line coach Joe Rudolph recruited at Wisconsin, Tanor Bortolini. He’s someone who started games at multiple positions for the Badgers, but was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts as a center.
Bortolini was another undersized prospect who needed to add weight and he did that. Herron will have to do the same, but the most important thing they have in common is how athletic they are. Herron ran a 4.51 short shuttle at Irish Invasion and that’s an outstanding time for a high school interior line prospect.
He’ll take some time to physically develop, but he has the potential to become a multi-year starter and future NFL Draft pick.
