New 2025 OL Commit Cameron Herron Explains Notre Dame Decision

Cameron Herron‍ had to do something that is quite foreign to him as he reached the end of his recruiting process.

The 2025 Indiana offensive lineman had to put himself first.

And when he did that, Herron came to the conclusion that Notre Dame was the best place for him and the Warren Central High School standout backed off the verbal commitment he’d given to Iowa in July and offered his pledge to the Irish on Monday.

“I don't want to think back and think, 'Should've, could've, would've.'” Herron told Irish Sports Daily. “ I just want to reach for the stars and go for it all. I don't want to have any things that I look back and like, 'Dang, man, I wish I did this.' I want to go for it all.”

Herron repeatedly pointed to Irish offensive line coach Joe Rudolph as the chief reason for that decision.

“He’s one of the greatest in the nation,” Herron said of Rudolph. “He's great. He keeps it 100 with you, he keeps it serious with you about everything. Through the recruiting process, he kept it real with me the whole time.

“He's there to try to push you to be your best self as a person and also as a person. He expects the best from you every day. He pushes you and the whole o-line room.”

Herron said he received the offer from the Irish a few weeks prior to taking an official visit to Notre Dame this past weekend.

“Coach Rudolph has been rooting for me and been trying to get an offer for me for forever,” Herron explained. “Ever since I met him, he's been trying to get an offer for me. They've ran out of spots because they had three o-line commits already. They were only going to get tackles this year because they obviously just lost two of their tackles to The League.”

But the numbers ended up playing out in Herron’s favor and there ended up being a spot for him after all, leading to this past weekend’s visit.

“The main thing I wanted to do was get around the players,” he said of the official. “See what the environment's like, get around the fan base. It was my first gameday. Get around the players and really just get talking to them and see if I like it there to see if I could fit in and see if the bond is there. I'm really heavy on bonds with the offensive line. That's definitely what I was looking for.”

He found it.

“The whole o-line room, they push each other to be the greatest,” he said. “They're all striving to play in The League and they're all pushing each other to be the greatest and it's just a great room in general. Just being around them, I know that they're going to build me into a great young man and just a great player.

“They're striving to be their greatest selves. I love that.”

Making the switch was tough, but now that’s behind him, Herron is fired up for his future.

“I'm excited. I'm really excited just watching them and just talking to them and just being around them for a couple of days, it gets me excited. It really does.”
