Landon Wolny knows plenty about Notre Dame already, so the 2027 Florida tight end is excited to get to South Bend for the Irish’s home opener against Texas A&M this weekend.
“I'm more than pumped,” Wolny tells Irish Sports Daily. “Notre Dame's kind of like a dream school for me, so I definitely want to see a game.”
Director of Player Personnel Jourdan Blake invited the Fort Myers High School standout to the game.
“Then he put me in contact with the tight ends coach,” Wolny continues. “He reached out, said he loved my film, wanted me to come for a game day.”
Wolny has dozens of offers from schools like Florida State, NC State, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Arkansas, Michigan State and Colorado among several others.
Still, Notre Dame is one school he’s always had a great deal of affection for.
“The culture and the academics aside from football, but with football,” he says. “I just feel like it's a special, tight-knit place where you can be somebody more than yourself. I think they run a great program and just the culture sets them apart.”
Wolny doesn’t have an offer from the Irish at this point, but says one would mean a lot.
“It would be amazing,” he says. “I grew up as a Notre Dame fan, so as a family, I know it would mean something special. Just from a tight end's standpoint, it's a big offer because they use them a lot. It's a key part of their offense. I think it would be overall good.”
He’s looking forward to this weekend.
“I just want to see how I like the environment, if I fit in, stuff like that,” he says. “I've heard nothing but great things, so I'm super excited to get up there and experience it for myself and just the gameday atmosphere in South Bend.”
He took a visit to Florida State a couple weeks ago and has some others planned throughout the fall.
“I'm heading to Miami next week and then NC State, South Carolina and Auburn,” he says.
He has a good idea of what will matter most when it comes time for him to choose a school.
“I would definitely say just the relationship with the coach and just the development, how they want to use me in their offense, future plans for me, stuff like that. You want to go for a coach who ultimately believes in you and your work ethic and your playing style, so I think if they maximize me to my greatest ability, I think it would be great on both ends.”
