Top 2027 OL Cameron Wagner Could See Himself At Notre Dame
Cameron Wagner made his way to Notre Dame for the third time this year last weekend and he was impressed once again.
“It was good,” the 2027 Illinois offensive lineman told Irish Sports Daily. “It was a great environment, good overall visit.
“It was one of the best environments I've ever seen.”
The St. Joseph-Ogden High School star attributed the atmosphere to the fans inside Notre Dame Stadium.
“On those big-play downs, the stadium was rocking and you could definitely tell that it was effective,” Wagner said. “Texas A&M, especially on the line, they probably had like five false starts. You could definitely tell it was affecting them.”
The 6-foot-7, 300-pounder was able to speak with Irish offensive line coach Joe Rudolph, assistant offensive line coach Rob Delaney, head coach Marcus Freeman and recruiting staffers.
“Just building those relationships,” he said. “It was good to talk to them.
“They said they were glad to have me there, fired up for the game, stuff like that and just excited to have me there.”
Wagner has been in routine contact with the Irish since being offered back in March, but in-person time is invaluable to him.
“It's important to me to be face-to-face with them just because you can really tell how much of a priority you are there,” he said. “Over the phone, they can say that you're a priority and stuff, but face-to-face, you can really tell how much they actually like you and how much they want you there at Notre Dame.”
Wagner was impressed with the Irish’s front against Texas A&M despite the 41-40 loss to the Aggies.
“The offensive line played great, honestly, especially in the passing game,” he said. “I don't think they allowed any sacks. I think maybe one pressure, but the offensive line played great in the pass game and it just came down to little details.”
He was able to speak with several recruits while in attendance, including 2027 commits Teddy Jarrard and Ellis McGaskin as well as 2026 commits Tyler Merrill and Javian Osborne.
“I'm already pretty close with all the 26 commits because of the Rivals Five-Star event,” he said. “I was hanging out with Tyler, JO and those guys, so it was cool to see them again.
“Teddy was just saying, 'Let's go bro, this is home.' Stuff like that and just telling me to come to Notre Dame. I met him before he committed to Notre Dame. He's a great quarterback first of all, and second of all, he's a great kid and he's cool to be around.”
Wagner has trips to Penn State, Florida, Illinois and Auburn coming up over the next month. He said he could add more, but it’ll depend on his high school schedule.
For now, he’ll continue to evaluate the Irish.
“Just weigh the pros and cons of it and see if I can see myself playing there. And right now, I definitely can.”
