Notre Dame has made a big push in Texas over the past few seasons, and the trend is continuing in the 2019 class.

On Tuesday, 2019 Mayde Creek (Texas) defensive end Marcus Stripling picked up an offer from the Irish and the 6-foot-4, 230-pounder is looking forward to learning more about the program.

“I spoke to them over the phone, and they let me know they were offering me,” Stripling told Irish Sports Daily. “They liked my solid play and wanted me to play at Notre Dame.

“I was excited, and I can’t wait to see what Notre Dame offers.”

The four-star prospect could be the top defensive end in Texas, and his research will start with finding out more about the football and educational opportunities in South Bend.

“I am going to have to do some research on them,” said Stripling. “I know they have a pretty good basketball program. That’s a big upside because I like basketball. If I went to Notre Dame, I would be at every game.”

Stripling’s rare combination of size, speed, and athleticism have made him into an elite prospect, but it has also provided him some flexibility when it comes to positions.

“I have run a 4.5 40, so I am pretty fast off the ball,” stated Stripling. “I have really good hands, and I feel I am an all around player. I believe I can do everything.

“I can play outside linebacker, rush end, and even nose guard.”

Alabama, Baylor, Florida, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M are a few of the programs that have already offered the 2019 prospect and Stripling has already seen most of them.

“Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, TCU, Florida, and Georgia are recruiting me the hardest,” Stripling said. “A lot of places have been coming at me.

“I have taken a few visits to Texas A&M. I have been to Texas and Oklahoma too. I have been everywhere, but some of my recent offers. I haven’t been to Alabama, Baylor, Houston, or LSU.”

Stripling has also taken notice of Tom Herman’s staff and energy in Austin.

“Herman and his staff are amazing,” explained Stripling. “They are going to change that place very soon. The coaches are doing good things right now.”

It’s still very early in his process, but Stripling is looking for a coaching staff he can trust.

“I am going to base my decision off my trust with the coach,” he stated. “I want to be able to put a blindfold on during the game, and if a coach tells me to go right, then I can trust him to put me in a position to make a play.”
