The Notre Dame staff rolled in deep to IMG Academy on Tuesday to check in on multiple prospects, including one of its cornerstone commitments in the 2027 class.

2027 linebacker Amarri Irvin‍ was visited by a group of Irish coaches that included Marcus Freeman, Al Washington, Mike Mickens, Mike Brown and Ja’Juan Seider, a show of presence that reinforced Notre Dame’s continued investment in its future linebacker.

For Irvin, the visit stood out not only because of the number of coaches in attendance, but because of the opportunity to spend time with Washington, who is now set to be his position coach after moving from defensive line coach to linebackers coach.

“Honestly, to see them and to see Coach Wash again in person for the first time with him being named the linebacker coach was amazing,” Irvin said. “Talking to him on a more personal side and really setting the tone of what’s expected in the future, how he’s watching me and things like that. It was really reassuring.”

The relationship between the two is beginning to take a more defined shape.

“I liked how we talked and everything,” he said. “It was really reassuring.”

Irvin also reflected on the coaching transition that saw former linebackers coach Max Bullough return to Michigan State and Washington step into the role.

“I was really happy for Coach Bullough,” Irvin said. “That’s his alma mater and a new job opportunity, so I was happy for him.”

Washington reached out soon after the move became official, a conversation that helped settle any lingering uncertainty.

“When Coach Wash got the job, he called me,” he said. “That call was kind of what I was looking for. It was that reassurance. We already touched base then, and when he came down again, it just made it all work.”

The IMG Academy standout also spent time catching up with Freeman, whose presence continues to resonate.

“He’s always excited,” Irvin said. “It’s always energy. It’s always a good time when we talk, especially when he’s talking about Notre Dame.

“Even our personal conversations, it’s kind of like family. You laugh, you get to know each other better and it’s just a great relationship overall.”

The visit carried additional weight because the coaches made the effort to come see him in person.

“Seeing them again, especially them coming down to see me, that made it more special.”

Irvin expects to be back on campus for a Junior Day event in the spring.
