Cameron Wagner‍ will return to Notre Dame for the March 21st Junior Day as the Irish continue to push hard for the 2027 Illinois offensive lineman.

Wagner has visited South Bend multiple times already and keeps making his way back because of how comfortable he feels with the staff, especially head coach Marcus Freeman and offensive line coach Joe Rudolph.

“Just my great relationship with Coach Freeman and Coach Rudolph,” Wagner said of why he continues to return. “I really feel like they’re my type of people and I can really fit in there.”

The 6-foot-6, 280-pounder believes the coaching style inside the program aligns with what he wants at the next level.

“Just the way that they coach,” he said. “They’ll love you hard, but then they coach you hard at the same time.

“They’ll get up on you if you do something wrong, but then when you do it right they’re going to love you hard.”

His offer list includes Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Illinois, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Wisconsin among others.

Wagner also has visits scheduled to Auburn, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon, Wisconsin and Illinois. He plans to work through that stretch before trimming his list.

“I’ll probably narrow it down to a top four, top five after these visits,” he said. “Then probably take another round of official visits.”

This upcoming trip to Notre Dame will also center on building familiarity with the players already in the program and those committed in the 2026 and 2027 classes.

“I want to get to know their ’26 guys who are there on campus a lot better,” Wagner said. “I also want to get to know James Halter, one of their ’27 commits, as well.”

Wagner and Halter have remained in contact since meeting in person.

“We’re pretty good friends,” he said. “We met each other a few times in person and we’ve stayed in contact online.”

Who he’ll be playing with will be important to the Saint Joseph, Ill., native.

“You can have one really good receiver and throw the ball to him every time, but if you’ve got one really good lineman and the rest are terrible, you’re not going to have a good o-line,” he said. “Every dude’s got to be on the same page and they’ve got to be boys. Five is one unit.”
