Top 2027 Edge Zyron Forstall Talks "Amazing" Notre Dame Visit
Zyron Forstall made his first trip to Notre Dame this weekend and came away with a clearer picture of how the Irish fit into his recruitment.
The 2027 IMG edge rusher visited campus after Notre Dame worked to get him on campus following a stretch where the program appeared to be on the outside looking in.
“It was pretty good,” Forstall told Irish Sports Daily. “The trip was smooth. I enjoyed everything.”
The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder spent extended time with defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, defensive coordinator Chris Ash and head coach Marcus Freeman, gaining a better understanding of both the scheme and overall vision for his development.
“It was just amazing,” he said. “Great staff, great people.”
Ash walked him through the structure of the defense and how his skillset could translate, including the ability to rush off the edge while also dropping into coverage in certain packages to highlight his full athletic ability.
That versatility and the way the staff approaches defensive line play stood out in his time with Partridge.
“Coach Partridge is a great coach,” he said. “Over his years of coaching, the game changes every year and I think he notices that and he implements it into the drills, especially with pass rushing. Every drill that he went over with me was up to date. It was intentional to the game today and how it’s played today.”
The trip also gave him a chance to evaluate the broader environment in South Bend, both on and off the field.
He described the campus as smaller and more focused, with an emphasis on academics and resources that help players develop beyond football.
That message was reinforced during his meeting with Freeman.
“He's a great guy,” Forstall said of Freeman. “I feel like he cares about you after football a lot more than just the three years you're going to give him at Notre Dame. He really cares about your career path and your overall development as a young man.”
Notre Dame’s ability to present both a developmental plan on the field and a long-term vision off it helped move the needle following the visit.
The Louisiana native holds offers from Notre Dame, LSU, Miami, Texas A&M, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, USC and Ole Miss among others.
He is scheduled to visit Texas A&M later this week and already has an official visit set with the Aggies. He’s also planning multiple spring stops before narrowing his list and setting additional official visits.
The next step in the process could be working toward an official visit to South Bend.
“I’m thinking of an official visit in June. Just staying in communication with them and working that date out.”
With a full spring schedule ahead and a number of programs still firmly involved, Forstall is entering a key stretch that will determine his finalists leading up to a summer decision.
