Tre Segarra‍ has heard the pitch about life beyond football before, but Notre Dame made it feel different this weekend.

The 2027 South Carolina running back made his first trip to South Bend for Junior Day as the Irish continue to push for positioning.

“I enjoyed it,” Segarra told Irish Sports Daily. “I had a great time.”

The 5-foot-10, 197-pounder spent time with head coach Marcus Freeman, running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider and the recruiting staff while going through a full visit that included practice, meetings and a campus tour.

He also had the chance to see the facilities and get a closer look at the academic side of the program, including conversations that centered on what Notre Dame offers beyond football.

That message stood out.

“You can tell Notre Dame can back it up,” he said. “They have evidence to prove that it's really more than football at Notre Dame.”

Segarra holds offers from Notre Dame, Tennessee, South Carolina, Indiana, Stanford, Alabama, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Texas and Texas A&M among others.

The on-field component also gave him a chance to evaluate how Notre Dame operates.

The Duncan, S.C., native pointed to the tempo of practice and the way Seider coached the running backs as a positive takeaway.

Segarra also spent time with Freeman, where the conversation extended beyond football.

They discussed life after the game and the long-term value of a Notre Dame degree, something that continues to resonate as he works through his options.

The Byrnes High School standout has already visited Clemson and South Carolina this spring and is scheduled to visit Penn State and Miami in the coming weeks as he goes through a busy spring schedule.

Segarra already has official visits set with Tennessee and South Carolina while continuing to figure out whether Notre Dame will be added to that group.

There does seem to be optimism about that happening, though.

“I’ll work some things out this weekend and this week and figure out what day works best and then move from there.”
