Notre Dame found its answer at quarterback in the Class of 2027…again.
Wonderful Monds IV has committed to the Irish on the heels of his visit to South Bend this weekend, giving Notre Dame its signal-caller in the cycle after the board reset earlier this year.
Monds chose the Irish over offers from schools like Florida, Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCLA and Oregon among several others.
The 2027 Florida quarterback emerged as a priority after Irish commit Teddy Jarrard reclassified from the 2027 class to 2026, reopening the position for Notre Dame in 2027.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Monds made his way to campus this weekend and quickly moved from target to commit.
Monds - a reclass himself, moving from the Class of 2028 to 2027 earlier this year - had been firmly on Notre Dame’s radar since picking up an offer in January and scheduled his spring visit shortly after, signaling early mutual interest.
“I was definitely super excited to get that offer,” Monds told Irish Sports Daily at the time. “It’s a great school overall, so I was just very happy that I got that one.”
Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman was one of the initial points of interest for the Vero Beach High School star.
“He's a great guy, great coach overall,” said Monds. “He runs a great program. His coaching staff is very nice, very great people.”
Offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli, specifically, stood out from the start.
“Those two are great guys and great coaches,” he said of the assistants. “I’ve seen what they’ve done with their quarterbacks, so I know they’re great at both of those.”
That interest turned into momentum.
Notre Dame entered the weekened seeming to have ground to make up, particularly with Florida State and Ohio State viewed as strong contenders, along with additional attention from Florida and Miami.
But the visit provided an opportunity to shift that dynamic and that’s exactly what happened as the Irish capitalized.
Landing Monds gives Notre Dame a key piece at the most important position in the 2027 class and provides clarity moving forward after the unexpected shift in the quarterback board.
He gives the Irish 12 current commits in the Class of 2027 and fifth offensive pledge, joining running backs Lathan Whisenton and Isaiah Rogers along with offensive linemen Richie Flanigan and James Halter.
He’s also the second commit of the day following the announcement of New Jersey defensive lineman Aidan O'Neil.
