The main reason David Folorunsho‍ made his way back to Notre Dame so quickly was simple, he wanted his mother to see it for herself.

The 2027 Illinois defensive lineman returned to South Bend on Friday for his second visit in a couple weeks, this time focused on giving his family a closer look at the program.

“It was great,” Folorunsho told Irish Sports Daily. “I had my mom come along. It’s the second time I’ve been in two weeks.”

Because he had already gone through meetings and fit discussions during his previous trip, this visit centered more on giving his mother a chance to experience the environment and people behind the program.

“They went great,” he said of his meetings with the staff. “It was mostly just for my mom because I did it last week.”

That part of the process mattered. It was important for Folorunsho to let his mother see firsthand the people he’s been building relationships with throughout his recruitment.

“Just for her to see who I would be around, the type of people they are and the community aspect,” he said.

She came away impressed.

“She really liked it,” he said. “So that was pretty cool.”

The Chicago native continues to build strong relationships with head coach Marcus Freeman, defensive line coach Charlie Partridge and defensive line assistant Nick Sebastian, all of whom have helped shape Notre Dame’s standing in his recruitment.

“I really liked it,” he said. “It feels like family all around the building.”

That consistent message has kept the Irish firmly in the mix as Folorunsho moves into the next phase of his process.

With unofficial visits now complete, his focus shifts to official visits.

He currently has trips set to Notre Dame and Georgia while programs like Indiana, Nebraska, Penn State, Missouri and Florida continue to push for officials of their own.

Folorunsho’s recruitment has shuffled around over the past few weeks, but while they may not have always been identified as the clear leaders, the Irish have remained a constant toward the top of his list, which seems telling.
