Official Visit Confirms Things For Notre Dame OL Commit Olu Olubobola
For the first time since committing to Notre Dame, Oluwasemilore Olubobola got to share South Bend with the people who will matter the most, his future teammates and his family.
The 2027 New Jersey offensive lineman spent this weekend's official visit building relationships with the players he'll soon be joining in Notre Dame's offensive line room while giving his parents their first look at the place he'll eventually call home.
By the end of the trip, both experiences reinforced why he chose the Irish.
"They loved it," Olubobola told Irish Sports Daily of his parents.
That validation carried weight for the St. Peter's Prep standout, who has been committed to Notre Dame since March.
"Just making sure my parents are comfortable where I'm at and they feel like there's good people there too," Olubobola said. "I'll be safe over there. Nothing's going to happen to me. I'll be protected and taken care of."
The weekend also gave Olubobola an opportunity to spend extended time with the players, coaches and fellow commits who will eventually become part of his everyday life in South Bend.
"Everything was great," he said.
One of the highlights was getting all four of Notre Dame's offensive line commits together on campus.
"It was good," Olubobola said. "Good to see the people I'm going to be working by next year and getting a chance to get to know the people and just see other people again."
For Olubobola, those relationships are particularly important given the nature of the position.
"It's important because offensive line is kind of seen as one group on the field," he explained. "One person can mess up and the whole line messed up. So it's good that the o-line has a good connection. They can help each other out and have that brotherhood."
The Irish offensive line pledges weren't strictly focused on getting to know one another either.
They spent part of the weekend trying to add another member to the group in Louisiana offensive lineman Albert Simien, one of Notre Dame's top remaining targets.
"We were talking to him trying to get him," Olubobola said.
Based on his interactions throughout the visit, Olubobola thinks Simien liked what he saw.
The trip also included additional time with head coach Marcus Freeman and offensive line coach Joe Rudolph, including a stop at Freeman's home.
Their message remained consistent with what Olubobola has heard throughout his recruitment.
"Coach Freeman and Coach Rudolph just emphasized the brotherhood of Notre Dame and how Notre Dame will change you if you let it," Olubobola said.
That theme surfaced repeatedly throughout the weekend.
For Olubobola, the official visit was about confirming his decision instead of making one. Coming out of the weekend, Olubobola is even more convinced he made the right choice.
