2019 Prestonwood Christian (Texas) tight end Austin Stogner got his Notre Dame offer in April and wasted little time making it to campus. The four-star prospect was in South Bend on Sunday for an unofficial visit and left impressed with what the Irish had to offer.
“It was really good,” Stogner told Irish Sports Daily. “It was a cool trip.”
The 6-foot-6, 230-pounder was thrilled to get time with offensive coordinator Chip Long, and Stogner was drawn into the history at tight end coming out of the Irish program.
“I got there about 9:00 a.m. and met with Coach Long,” explained Stogner. “He showed me film on the tight end tradition at Notre Dame. He was able to show me how he used the tight end and pulled up the Arizona State film.”
Head coach Brian Kelly then gave the Texas native a tour of the facilities and let Stogner know how much Notre Dame wanted his commitment.
“I had a tour with Coach Kelly and saw the new facility,” stated Stogner. “It was cool. We had a meeting with him too.
“He told they want me at Notre Dame bad. He explained his plans for the tight end, and I got to know him a little bit.”
One part of the visit that stuck out to Stogner was the campus. Stogner has been some of the top programs in the country, but the campus and life at Notre Dame was different than previous schools he had seen.
“I liked the campus,” said Stogner. “It’s a neat place with all it has to offer. It’s different than the schools I have visited. They don’t have a football dorm, and that’s cool. Everything is about students and football players not being separated.
“I took it as a positive because you don’t want to secluded. You can have friends outside of the football players.”
Sunday was the second day of Irish Invasion, and Stogner got to interact with several of members of Notre Dame’s 2018 class, including five-star quarterback Phil Jurkovec.
“I met the quarterback that is committed and the twins (Jayson and Justin Ademilola). They were cool guys, and they have bought into the program.”
The highlight of the visit for Stogner was getting the time with Long and seeing the success of his position that has come from the Irish program.
“Getting to meet with Coach Long and seeing the Notre Dame tradition at tight end was cool,” said Stogner.
Stogner holds offers from the likes of Baylor, Duke, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, TCU, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.
