Laszewski Talks Notre Dame Offer

Notre Dame men’s basketball head coach Mike Brey and his staff have had their eyes on Nate Laszewski for a long time now and after watching him in a couple summer tournaments with his New England Playaz squad this month, they decided to pull the trigger and offer the 2018 Massachusetts forward earlier this week.

“Coach Brey called me,” the 6-foot-10 Laszewski said. “He said he really enjoyed watching me play in Atlanta and a little bit in South Carolina and he offered me.”

Laszewski, who also has offers from schools like Wake Forest, Villanova, Vanderbilt, Miami, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor and USC among several others, was excited to hear the news.

“It’s pretty cool,” Laszewski said earlier this week from Las Vegas, where he’s playing in an adidas tournament with the Playaz. “I’ve taken a couple unofficials there, so I’ve been in contact with them for a couple years.”

The Northfield Mount Hermon standout enjoyed his earlier visits to South Bend.

“It’s a really nice campus, great school, great academics and a really good program and a system that would fit me,” he said.

A skilled big man who can dribble, shoot and pass, Brey’s system is one reason Laszewski will give the Irish a serious look.

“Everyone is pretty versatile,” he said of Notre Dame’s roster. “They can all make plays off the bounce, shoot it, defend. It’s a multi-dimensional, versatile system.”

Laszewski has worked hard on his game and seen the results on the floor, which is why Notre Dame stepped up.

“I think rebounding, making some plays off the dribble and being consistent on the defensive end, but I’ve also shot the ball pretty well so far on the circuit,” Laszewski said of improvements. “It’s been a good run for me and my team.”

“Just somewhere I fit, a good school, academics, good basketball system, good conference, somewhere I could see myself playing and would fit me.”

Laszewski is concentrating on finishing the summer season strong, but does plan on keeping in contact with the Irish staff.

“After July, maybe I’ll sit down and see what I’m going to do with my recruiting from there,” he said.

“I don’t have like a list right now. I’m just focused on playing in July and then after July, sitting down with my parents and trying to look at my recruitment.”
