McNamara Enjoys First Notre Dame Game
After a pair of unofficial visits to South Bend this summer led to his commitment to Notre Dame, 2019 Nevada quarterback Cade McNamara had been looking forward to his first game inside Notre Dame Stadium and had a chance to experience that on Saturday night.
“Getting to experience an Irish game was the best part,” McNamara said of his return trip for the Irish’s game against Georgia.
“The atmosphere was incredible. The student section and all of the fans were super into the game. Georgia traveled very well, which is impressive for their program. It was a tough loss, but I expect Notre Dame to bounce back.”
The 6-foot-1, 186-pounder from Reno had the opportunity to meet Notre Dame’s other 2019 commit, defensive tackle Jacob Lacey.
“It was great because me and him are the ones starting this 2019 class,” McNamara said. “It was great catching up and getting to know him a little better.”
He also had the chance to meet several of the 2018 commits who were also in attendance.
“It was good,” the Damonte Ranch High School star said. “I spent a lot of time trying to get to know the guys, getting a little closer, get some relationships going. I feel like I did a good job with that. I got to know a lot of the guys and I’m looking forward to those relationships.”
McNamara also spent time talking with some of the uncommitted visitors on campus.
“I did a little bit of my own recruiting,” the junior signal-caller said. “I got to know those guys who were on their official visits.
“I just talk about the reason I chose Notre Dame. I feel like Notre Dame is the best program in the country and I don’t doubt that at all.”
Despite being a quarterback, McNamara didn’t feel the need to carve out extra time to make pitches to wide receivers Chase Cota and Geordon Porter.
“I just try and get the best players we can no matter what position,” he said.
After taking in his first Notre Dame game, McNamara already has plans for his second.
“I will be back for the USC game.”
