Notre Dame has momentum on the recruiting trail and most importantly, momentum at defensive back recruiting. 2018 Milpitas (Calif.) cornerback Tariq Bracy‍ is the latest to give his pledge to the Irish as the 6-foot, 175-pounder committed to Notre Dame on Sunday night.

The four-star prospect chose Notre Dame over the likes of Cal, Fresno State, San Diego State, Utah and Washington State.

San Diego had moved into prime position to land the California native as the Aztecs gave a chance for Bracy to play with his brother. However, the chance to get a big-time degree while playing top-level football was too much to turn down.

Bracy will bring speed and athleticism to the Notre Dame secondary, which is always needed.

“He’s a great player and a great young man,” Milpitas head coach Kelly King said. “You can’t go wrong there.

“Obviously, he can run and has great ball skills. For us, he’s a two-way player. He does a great job shutting the other guy down and plays some running back and receiver for us.”

Bracy and his family visited Notre Dame for the USC game in October, and the entire trip blew them away, as some in the family had reservations about him heading so far away for school.

The educational opportunities and learning environment impressed his mother the most on the visit.

“The academics were great, and it was impressive,” stated Annetta Carter, Bracy’s mother. “I told the gentleman from admissions that I was surprised the student body was so low. Only 8,000 students, it won’t be such a big class size or overwhelming, especially for an incoming freshman. They can have more one-on-one time or face time with the professors.

“There are high school classes bigger than that, so it’s amazing. I definitely thought Notre Dame would have more students because its such a well-known school.”

Landing Bracy was an entire team effort from the Notre Dame staff.

““Absolutely,” Carter said when asked if she felt comfortable sending her son to play for the Notre Dame staff. “They all have a really good background and said the same thing. They were consistent with their message, and that feels good.”

Bracy joins Derrik Allen‍, Paul Moala‍ and Joe Wilkins Jr.‍ in the 2018 secondary haul.
