Recruiting Week In Review
This past weekend was huge for Notre Dame recruiting. Not only did the Irish have Class of 2018 players in for official visits as they look to close the class strong, but they also had a Junior Day for Class of 2019 prospects. As is generally the case with the Irish, they put on a great show for their recruits and the results coming in from them seems overwhelmingly positive.
Irish Sports Daily reported on two young men that were on campus last weekend, one from the Class of 2018 and one from the Class of 2019. Both had only positive things to say about Notre Dame. What have you been missing by not being a member of Irish Sports Daily?
C'Bo Flemister, RB, 5-11, 192, Pike County High School, Zebulon, GA made the trip to South Bend last weekend for an official visit with the Irish. Though he is currently committed to Georgia Tech, the three-star running back is still looking at all his options and Notre Dame is one of them.
“I really enjoyed my time,” he shared. “I’m glad I got to come up here to see the campus and get to know the coaches more. They took me through all the facilities and I got to tour the campus. The campus is beautiful and the facilities are really nice. I had a meeting with the Director of Admissions, I got to talk with Adam Sargent; that was really good. He was talking about the academic part.”
Sargent made a very strong impression on the Georgia native.
“I could tell he is really passionate about making sure everyone has structure and is on point when they come,” Flemister explained. “I can tell he’s probably good at what he does; making sure all of the athletes have structure, stay focused and stay on the right track.”
Freshman wide receiver Jafar Armstrong hosted Flemister but he connected with almost all of the players he met.
“The players are really cool,” he said. “I really enjoyed everybody. I feel like I meshed well with everyone. I think I had good person to person meetings.”
The coaches pitched playing time to Flemister, not surprising considering the attrition the Irish have suffered at the running back position this off-season.
“Of course, I’d have the opportunity to play right away if I come in and work hard,” he said.
Flemister also spent time with Brian Kelly and came away from that praising the Irish head coach.
“He’s a really great guy,” he shared. “I really like him. He was just saying that he wants to build a relationship and that we’d rarely talk about football. We’d talk about how things were going if I were to come there.”
In addition to Notre Dame and Georgia Tech, Flemister is also considering Tennessee, where he took an official visit a few weeks ago. He’s planning to make a decision soon and while he acknowledges that one program is in the lead, he’s staying mum on who that is.
Like Flemister, Kameron Brown, WR, 6-0, 170, Colleyville Heritage High School, Colleyville, TX also trekked to South Bend for a recruiting visit last weekend, but unlike Flemister, Brown has over a year to make his final decision, not a matter of days. However, he too immensely enjoyed his time at Notre Dame.
“I liked it,” he shared. “Everything I was looking for they had, so I was pretty impressed. I was looking for a nice campus, something that’s different. The athletes all room with the students so they’re not really secluded to just hanging out with athletes. I was looking for how they would use me on the field. During the time I was with the coaches they broke down where they saw me playing and everything.”
The Irish coaches see Brown playing multiple positions and made sure the four-star Texan knew that.
“Multiple spots inside and outside,” he said about how the coaches planned to use him. “They don’t really see positions, they see football players. If you’re a football players they’ll put you in the best position for the match up.”
The coaches didn’t just make an impression on Brown with their coaching skills.
“I love the coaches as people,” he said. “I loved them.”
Like with Flemister, Adam Sargent also made a big impression on Brown.
“He was really into it,” he said. He really broke down how it’s going to be. He said it’s not going to be easy and they’re not going to make it so easy on the athletes. They help you at the stop and start easing off so you can kind of mature yourself. I liked it.”
Brown decommitted from UCLA last week and has other trips planned as well. Right now he has Texas A&M and Oregon on his visit schedule but also plans to return to Notre Dame as well.
“I know I’ll get back but I’m not sure exactly when I’ll be doing that,” he said. “Next time, probably in the summer, I’d like to get a feel for the area around the school and the town around the school.”
