Notre Dame identified 2020 New Canaan (Conn.) quarterback Drew Pyne‍ early in the process and offered the 6-foot-1, 170-pounder last June after an unofficial visit.

The four-star prospect will be back at Notre Dame on April 11th two-day visit in hopes of educating himself more on the Irish program.

“I’m hoping to learn more about the football program and learn more about the school in general.”

Pyne grew up watching Notre Dame, so the New Canaan star has a good grasp on what an offer from the Irish means.

“Notre Dame is a special place,” stated Pyne. “It has a great football tradition and plays a national schedule.”

As a 2020 recruit, the NCAA doesn’t allow a ton of contact and visits are crucial for prospects like Pyne to develop relationships with the coaching staff. Pyne is looking forward to reconnecting with quarterbacks coach Tom Rees after visiting twice in 2017.

“I’ve created a great relationship with Coach Rees, and I’m excited to see him,” Pyne said.

Pyne holds offers from 20 programs, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech.

Notre Dame won’t be the only school getting an April visit as Pyne plans to visit two other national powers, but he’s in no hurry to make a decision.

“I’m planning on visiting Penn State and Oklahoma in April,” explained Pyne. “I don’t have a timetable for committing. I will commit when I feel like the fit is right for me.”

One interesting piece to Pyne’s recruitment is the chance to play with his cousin, 2020 offensive lineman Kevin Pyne‍. Notre Dame has offered both, and it presents a unique opportunity for the family.

“It would be very special to play with my cousin in college,” Pyne stated. “He’s a great player, but we both need to go to a school and program that is the best fit for both of us.”

As the offseason kicks into gear, Pyne will turn his focus to preparing for another State Title run.

“My goal this offseason is to get bigger, faster and stronger,” said Pyne. “I want to build a great relationship with my receivers so we can win another State Championship.”

Pyne threw for 2,355 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2017.
