2020 VA Speedster Chris Tyree Ready To Learn More About Notre Dame After Offer
Thomas Dale (Va.) athlete Chris Tyree might only be a sophomore, but the 5-foot-9, 175-pounder is one of the most explosive players in the country regardless of class.
The four-star prospect blew up as he ran a 4.38 40-yard dash with a 36-inch vertical at the Elite 11 regional in Charlotte earlier this spring. Tyree has also run a 10.8 in the 100m this spring on the track.
Tyree’s film and testing results have caught the eye of several big-time programs, including Notre Dame as the Irish offered on Wednesday.
“I was very excited to get this offer,” Tyree told Irish Sports Daily. Notre Dame is a top-ranked school academically and in football.”
Running backs coach Autry Denson extended the offer, and the two have started some contact over the phone this week.
“I really had not been in much contact with the coaches prior to Tuesday,” explained Tyree. “I believe my high school coach had contact with them prior to the offer. I talked to Coach Denson on the phone for a while, and I think it was a great start to building a good relationship.”
The Virginia native admitted he doesn’t know too much about Notre Dame, but Tyree is well aware of the prestige the Irish program carries on and off the field.
“I know Notre Dame has a very rich football tradition,” stated Tyree. I also know they are one of the top-ranked schools academically and have a high graduation rate for their football players.
“I will be learning a lot more in the coming months and will hopefully increase my relationship with Coach Denson and the rest of the staff.”
Tyree is listed as an athlete, but most programs see him on offense as special things happen with the ball in his hands.
In 2017, Tyree rushed just 109 times, but he racked up 1,113 yards and 10 touchdowns. Tyree averaged an eye-popping 10.2 yards per carry and makes it very tough to see him ending up on defense at the next level.
“Most schools are recruiting me as a running back or slot,” said Tyree. “They see my biggest asset as being fast, quick and shifty. They also say I have great vision.
“I have played many positions at a high level for my high school team, so I think coaches also know that I can be very versatile.”
Notre Dame might have offered two days ago, but Tyree is already thinking about getting to South Bend.
“I definitely plan on visiting Notre Dame,” Tyree stated. “I look forward to meeting the coaching staff and learning more about the school itself.
"I don’t have anything scheduled for any schools because I’m in the middle of track season. I may be able to squeeze something in soon, but it will be a last minute type of situation.”
When Tyree does get to a school, he already knows a few things he’s looking for in a program.
“The biggest thing I’m looking for in a school is just how comfortable I feel about the overall campus. I want to find a school that I would like even if football was not a factor. I also want to find a school that is good academically as well as being competitive in football.
“I know coaching staffs change all the time, but I would love to find a place that I also have a great relationship with the coaches as well.”
