2019 Dunlap (Ill.) defensive end Josiah Miamen‍ made his first trip to Notre Dame on April 5th and left with an offer from the Irish. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder returned to campus this weekend for a two-day unofficial visit and once again came away impressed with the Notre Dame program and defensive line coach Mike Elston.

“It was a great visit,” Miamen told Irish Sports Daily. “I learned a lot of stuff I didn’t see or know on my last visit. I got a good feel for the campus.”

Despite having Notre Dame’s Elite Skills Camp on Saturday, Elston made sure to give time to the Miamen family, which was highlighted by a personal tour of campus from Elston.

The three-star prospect also got to get a better understanding of the Drop position as well as the nuts and bolts of Notre Dame.

“On Sunday, I had an academic meeting,” explained Miamen. “I got to meet with Coach (Tom) Rees, Coach (Clark) Lea and Coach Elston. We went out to eat and then got to watch film on how they would use me.”

When it comes to the drop position, Miamen enjoyed watching film of Daelin Hayes and Julian Okwara and felt he could fit into the role well.

“They were showing me how I would be playing the position and the type of scenarios I would be in,” Miamen explained. “The only difference would be me dropping back, which I think I can get down pretty easily.

"I can definitely do everything the position entails.”

Academics were a big reason Miamen wanted to return to South Bend to learn more about Notre Dame, and he wasn’t disappointed with what he saw over the weekend.

“The academics speak for itself,” stated Miamen. “The academic guy that takes care of the football stuff, I liked him, and I work well with him. Knowing there will be people in the classroom and on the football that support you and help you is a great thing.”

Elston has built a strong relationship with the Dunlap star over the last few months, so this weekend wasn’t about selling himself or feeling each other out.

“I already knew he wanted me to go to Notre Dame,” said Miamen. “It was more of an informative weekend, and he explained how I would play the position. He let me get a better feel for the campus too.”

Lea also got a chance to make a positive impression on Miamen this weekend.

“He seems like a really nice guy and very family oriented,” Miamen stated. “The whole staff is very family oriented. He has the best interest in mind for his players.

“He wants me to make the best decision for me whether it’s Notre Dame or another school. Coach Lea is a really good guy.”

Miamen has tentative plans to visit Purdue later this month and is already eyeing another return trip to South Bend.

“I think I’m going to go to Purdue on June 18th, but that could change,” Miamen said. “I’ll probably be back at Notre Dame for the game on September 1st.”

When it comes to a commitment, Miamen has an idea of when he wants to commit but is still playing it by ear.

“I have a general idea,” said Miamen. “I want to commit between now and middle of my season.”
