INTEL: 2019 LB Tristan Sinclair
Notre Dame will host one of the most intriguing prospects on the board for an official this weekend as 2019 San Ramon Valley (Calif.) linebacker Tristan Sinclair returns to South Bend.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder took an unofficial visit to Notre Dame the first week of April, and he was taken back by what he experienced.
Sinclair is no stranger to high academic programs, as his father went to Stanford, but the three-star prospect had his eyes opened to the opportunities at Notre Dame.
I caught up with Sinclair, who was gracious enough to take time out of his vacation, to get some intel on what exactly he was hoping to experience on this trip.
“I’m really excited to get to spend more time getting to know the players and the coaches,” Sinclair said. “I was able to meet a lot of them on my unofficial, but I can’t wait to spend more time with them.”
Notre Dame has received two commitments at the linebacker position in the last week with Ositadinma Ekwonu and Jack Kiser giving verbal pledges to the Irish. Sinclair is aware of the situation, but he also knows the staff thinks very highly of him at this stage.
“The coaches have just been emphasizing how important I am to them,” stated Sinclair. “They’ve told me I moved way up on the board after watching my spring practice and they were pretty excited.”
The Irish are battling local program Cal and Stanford for Sinclair’s commitment, and as he takes his visits, the California native is starting to look at the little details. Sinclair believes all the aspects of the program will allow him to be comfortable at a school and that’s what he is looking for in a future home.
“The things that are most important on these visits is feeling comfortable with the people,” explained Sinclair. “If you can find the right fit for yourself with the people, I think you can make everything else work.
“That’s why I can’t wait to get around the players more there because Notre Dame is a place where I feel really at home, and I think I fit in there really well.”
As for a timeline for a commitment, Sinclair doesn’t have one in mind, but he admitted it might be later than he expected as he wants to make sure he’s making the best choice.
“My timeline right now doesn’t have any set dates,” said Sinclair. “I think I will wait a little longer than I originally planned because I want to make the right decision when the time comes.”
