2020 RB Bijan Robinson One To Watch
Notre Dame recently offered 2020 Arizona defensive back Lathan Ransom and the Irish also seem to be interested in his Salpointe Catholic High School teammate, 2020 running back Bijan Robinson.
Irish wide receivers coach Del Alexander was in Tucson during their bye week and sat down with Salpointe Catholic head coach Dennis Bene.
“Coach Alexander came down and we talked about Lathan and Bijon,” said Bene. “Of course, Coach (Chip) Long, the offensive coordinator, I’ve known for a long time since he was back at Arizona State. I know they’re high on him, so we’ll see if an offer comes or not.”
Robinson already has offers from schools like Arizona, Arizona State, USC, UCLA, Washington, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, LSU and Alabama among others.
“He’s just extremely explosive,” said Bene. “He’s 200 pounds and he’s extremely quick. He can change speeds, he can make guys miss. He’s got tremendous hands. Arguably, I think he’s the best receiving tailback in the country. He’s got great vision. His vision enables him to get in and out of creases, those are things you can’t really coach or teach. It’s just an ability he has that kind of separates him from most guys.”
Bene raved about Ransom’s character off the field and said Robinson is “extremely similar.”
“He lives with his grandparents,” the coach said. “He’s very, very humble. He’s very grounded in his faith. He spends a lot of time with his church. He’s a tremendous young man; very, very high character. He’s extremely well-respected by the adults on our campus. I always look at that as a very strong indicator of what type of young man he is when the feedback from the faculty on campus is very positive just as him being a person on campus and carrying himself as a polite, humble young person.
“It’s very rewarding to hear as his head coach.”
Even with so many major offers already Bene believes Ransom would have serious interest in the Irish if they offered.
“Especially for kids in Tucson and at our Catholic school, Notre Dame is on NBC every Saturday and they get a lot of air time. We see them a lot. It’s a tremendous honor and I think a school he’d consider very strongly if they offered.”
