Jalen Kimber‍ isn’t the typical Texas football prospect, at least not from a geographical standpoint.

“We’re from the Chicagoland area,” the 2020 Texas cornerback’s father, Art Kimber, told Irish Sports Daily.

“We grew up on Notre Dame Football.”

Not only that, Kimber played in the same Midwest Boom 7-on-7 program as multiple current and former Irish standouts.

“There are several players we know, Julian Love, Houston Griffith, all of those guys,” Mr. Kimber said.

“There’s some ties from that perspective.”

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound junior landed an offer from Notre Dame back in December and also counts Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Michigan, Penn State and several others among his offers.

Mr. Kimber said he’s known 2019 Notre Dame safety signee Kyle Hamilton’s father, Derrek, “forever” and that there sons are very close as well.

“There’s a tie there, there’s a connection there,” he added.

But that’s not the main appeal of Notre Dame.

“Those are some of the connections that draw us to Notre Dame, but more importantly as a parent, you can never go wrong with an education from Notre Dame,” Mr. Kimber said. “In my opinion, I think you get a high level of football along with a high level of education and a great post-graduate alumni support system to tap into when it’s all said and done.

“Those are things that are important to me as a parent, so I’m going to do what I need to do to get my son there to explore this opportunity.”

That’s why Kimber has locked in a visit to Notre Dame for the first weekend of April. It’s not clear just yet if the visit will be an official or unofficial.

Kimber will be busy over the next few weeks with stops at Texas and Alabama prior to his trip up to South Bend.
