Notre Dame got their quarterback in the 2022 class and he was one of four players they offered at the position this cycle.

A commitment from Steve Angeli‍ isn’t going to have Notre Dame fans celebrating in the streets as he is the lowest rated prospect out of the four. That doesn’t mean he’s not a good prospect.

Angeli’s best football is ahead of him and he already shows traits that should translate well to the college game.

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 210

Projected Position: Quarterback

ISD Grade: 92 (4-star)

National Average Grade: 90.0 (4-star)

What he does best:

He’s an accurate passer when throwing in rhythm. Angeli throws a tight, catchable ball and has enough arm talent to hit this type of wide side throw.

An above average athlete, he does well throwing on the move and does a nice job squaring up and delivering the football outside of the pocket.

No one would confuse him as a dual-threat, but I believe he can be a chain mover with his legs. He also does a really good job escaping the rush, a crucial skill at any level of football. He can improvise when he needs to and make winning plays when things aren’t in his favor.

He’s not someone who appears rattled by pressure in his face. Any quarterback can look good with a clean pocket. It’s the one who can slide and move and still deliver like they need to who can thrive in college football. Angeli shows he can do that.

What he needs to improve:

There are some inconsistencies with his arm and I think some of it is mechanical. He falls away from some throws when he doesn’t have to and doesn’t show a natural zip on off-platform throws.

He does work through progressions, but has to speed up his process like a lot of young quarterbacks.

There aren’t enough deep throws from him for me to properly assess him there. I hope to see more of that from his senior season.

What’s his ceiling?

His stats from his junior season won’t blow anyone away.

59% completions, 8.0 yards per attempt, and six touchdowns in only six games isn’t exactly going to get people hyped.

It’s important to note that he only averaged 19 attempts per game in an offense that only threw the ball 36.1% of the time. His leading receiver was also a running back. He’s not playing with elite skill talent and his protection was not great.

Sometimes adverse conditions allow players to showcase specific skills and I thought Angeli did that pretty well with his feel for the rush and an ability to put it on some receivers who weren’t running wide open.

There are some other prospects with more physical ability that pop on film, but Angeli is strong in many areas and should only improve his game with more snaps as a senior.

Who he could be:
