Notre Dame has made a habit of going into Michigan to land top talent and the Fighting Irish have done it again.

2022 Traverse City (Mich.) linebacker Joshua Burnham‍ has committed to Notre Dame over Michigan and Wisconsin.

The four-star prospect is Notre Dame's second linebacker commit in the class as he'll join fellow Michigan native Nolan Ziegler‍.

It's not only a significant addition in talent to the Irish roster, but it's a message sent by Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame coaching staff. The Irish went to Clarkston (Mich.) a year ago to steal Rocco Spindler from the Wolverines and now will take another top prospect from Michigan.

Burnham projects as an inside backer, but he could also play rover with his unique athleticism with his 6-foot-4, 215-pound frame.

"He's a modern-day athlete at linebacker who has played everything from running back to quarterback on offense," stated ISD's Jamie Uyeyama. "He brings violence as a tackler, does a great job working through the trash against the inside run, and has the instincts and ball skills to thrive in coverage.

"He's long, twitchy, and an outstanding pure football player. My comp for him is former Boise State linebacker Leighton Vander Esch."

Notre Dame wants to take four linebackers in the 2022 recruiting class and the focus will now be on Sebastian Cheeks‍, Jaylen Sneed‍ and Niuafe Tuihalamaka‍.

Burnham, Ziegler and 2021 running back signee Logan Diggs all have St. Patrick’s Day birthdays.
