Joshua Burnham‍ wasn’t able to get to South Bend when he wanted to during the spring, but the 2022 Notre Dame linebacker commit was able to make it down for multiple major recruiting weekends earlier this month.

“It was amazing,” said the Traverse City, Mich., native who was in town for the second and third weekends of the month.

“It was good to actually be able to get down and see everything, get to see some of the players and some of the other commits that were down there.”

Burnham had the chance to spend time with current players like Jack Kiser, JD Bertrand, Isaiah Foskey, Drew Pyne and others.

“Then I hung out with some of the commits my class, Nolan Ziegler‍, Steve Angeli‍,” he said. “They were the two main ones and then there was Eli (Raridon) who was down there when I was there too.”

And he had the opportunity to spend time with an eventual commit, linebacker Niuafe Tuihalamaka‍ (pictured above with Burnham and Marcus Freeman), who announced his commitment a week after his visit.

“It was good to finally get to see him in person, I'm definitely looking forward to playing with him on the field,” Burnham said of Tuihalamaka, who specifically talked about wanting to meet the Michigan native prior to his visit from California.

Burnham feels the bonds being made now will pay dividends down the road.

“I feel like once we get there, we're going to have a crazy good connection already, so we'll be ahead of the game,” he said. “I think it's very important.”

Burnham was also able to speak with the coaches more about his individual future on the field.

“I'm definitely going to try and get in as soon as possible,” he said. “They're not really 100 percent sure on what linebacker position yet; if they want me in the box, edge rusher or what. They just said they're looking at all three and will pick which one fits best.”

He’s planning more trips to South Bend in the fall.

“I think I'm going to try and get down to the season-opener and then I'm taking my official for the USC game.”
