2024 NY DT Tyriq Blanding Impressed With First Look At Notre Dame
2024 New York defensive lineman Tyriq Blanding enjoyed his first trip to Notre Dame on Tuesday.
“Everything went great,” the 6-foot-3, 275-pounder from Christ The King told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “At first, we got to see a little presentation. Then we got to watch the football team work out.
“Then, we went to Indy's with our position coaches. He took us in the room, showed us some film, showed us defensive moves they use on the d-line to get the offensive linemen off of them. Then he showed film of the camp they did and the people who went to that camp, what they did wrong, what they could improve next time.
“After that, we went to the stadium, did a little photoshoot, ate and left.”
Blanding, who already has scholarship offers from schools like Michigan, Nebraska, Miami, Arizona State, Oregon, Syracuse and Pittsburgh among others, spent time with Irish defensive line coach Mike Elston and his assistant Mike Moon.
“I was with both of them,” said Blanding. “I was with Coach Moon in the morning and Coach Elston in the afternoon. They were cool dudes. They were helpful too.”
Blanding was especially grateful for the techniques they showed him.
“For example, he taught me how to do a proper long-arm,” said Blanding. “I was taught to long-arm the outside shoulder.
“He told me to long-arm on the inside shoulder because all the offensive lineman's power comes from inside of the hip. If you attack where the power is, they're going to have no power. He was showing us examples of players who recently got drafted using that move to get sacks and strip fumbles and stuff like that.”
Blanding was also impressed with the campus.
“The campus is real nice, real nice,” he said. “It's spacious too.”
Blanding definitely plans on returning at some point.
“I feel that it's a great school. It's better than what I expected it to be.”
