2024 Chaminade (Calif.) safety Marquis Gallegos‍ added an offer from Notre Dame on St. Patrick’s Day and the 6-foot-1, 175-pounder wasted no time setting up his first visit to South Bend as he’ll be on campus this weekend for the Blue-Gold Game.

“I initially wanted to get out there because I know how good of a school it is,” Gallegos told ISD. “When I got the offer from Coach (Chris) O’Leary, Notre Dame showed a lot of love and made it seem like they really wanted me to get out there for the spring game, so I had to get out there.”

While the relationship is still young, O’Leary has clearly made a positive impression on the West Coast prospect with his outgoing and energetic personality.

“He’s great and seems very down to earth,” stated Gallegos. “He’s very honest with me. The first time we spoke, he kept it real with me and was just a cool guy. I’m looking forward to building a relationship with him.”

Gallegos will also be joined by some familiar faces on his trip to Notre Dame. 2024 St. John Bosco safety Peyton Woodyard‍ and linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa‍ will be on campus and they have played 7-on-7 with Gallegos for the last few years.

Woodyard is no stranger to Notre Dame as this will be his third visit, but for Gallegos, the Chaminade star wants to soak it all in.

“It’ll be my first time out there, so I want to take it all in,” Gallegos explained. “If I go back for a second or third visit, then I’ll come back looking for more specific things.”

Notre Dame isn’t the only program after Gallegos as USC’s new staff has made quite the impression early in his process.

“There is a lot of energy from the new staff,” stated Gallegos. “They’re really coming after the 2024 class. They just got a linebacker to commit that I’m also pretty close with - Dylan Williams. They’re really pushing for us and making it known they really want us.”

And yes, it seems Lincoln Riley wants to make Southern California a priority as the Trojans staff has dialed in on keeping the prospects like Gallegos in-state.

“They are emphasizing that a lot,” Gallegos said. “They want to keep us on the West Coast.”

As far as a decision, Gallegos isn’t close to making one as he wants to take his time and figure out what he's looking for in a program.

“I’m going to take my time with it,” said Gallegos. “I’m not in a rush.”
