BREAKING | 2023 WR Rico Flores Jr. Commits To Notre Dame

July 3, 2022

Notre Dame knew Rico Flores Jr.‍ was a fit.

Long before the 2023 California wide receiver visited South Bend for the first time, Notre Dame knew.

Even when Flores was seriously impressed by other schools, Notre Dame knew.

And by the time Flores completed an official to Notre Dame last month, he knew too.

On Sunday, the Folsom High School star let the world know, announcing his commitment to the Irish.

“I like everything that (Marcus) Freeman has got going on over there,” Flores told Irish Sports Daily about his decision earlier last week.

“All the coaches, everybody from Freeman to (Tommy) Rees to (Chansi) Stuckey to the recruiters there like Chad (Bowden).”

The coaches made tremendous impressions on Flores by showing him how much they care about him as a person and with their plans to use him on the field.

“They say I'm very talented,” said Flores. “I'm very diverse, so they could set me up really anywhere on the field and just prepare me for mismatches; put me in the slot, kill the linebackers, kill the safeties that come down in the boundary, cook corners and stuff like that.

“They say I'm very talented and diverse, so I could really be used anywhere on the field.”

The opportunities off the field also hit home with Flores.

“Notre Dame has a good education that sets you up for more than just four years,” he said. “It sets you up for 40-plus.”

Flores gives Notre Dame 18 current commits in the Class of 2023 and its fourth pledge in the last five days, joining 2024 receiver Cam Williams‍, 2023 offensive lineman Charles Jagusah‍ and 2023 cornerback Micah Bell‍.

He joins Texas’ Braylon James‍ to give Stuckey and the Irish a pair of wide receiver commits.

Flores and James spent plenty of time together during their official visits to South Bend in June.

“Braylon's such a cool dude,” said Flores. “I really got to learn about who he was a little bit on the trip. I feel like we got real close in like 48 hours. It'll be a dynamic duo for sure.”

The Irish are still firmly in the race for Massachusetts wideout Ronan Hanafin‍ and Texas' Jaden Greathouse‍.
