Elijah Burress‍ returned to South Bend this weekend, the 2025 New Jersey receiver’s first visit since committing to Notre Dame last month.

“It went well,” the DePaul Catholic star said. “I had fun with the guys. I had a great time visiting the campus and touring the campus.”

Burress spent time with fellow 2025 commits like Deuce Knight‍, Shaun Terry II‍, Jerome Bettis Jr.‍, Chris Burgess‍, Owen Strebig‍, James Flanigan‍ and others.

“I was just building relationships with them,” he said. “It’s nice. I can just tell the moment I saw them, we clicked. We're going to keep on being friends and it's nice being home with the guys.”

Burress said it’s beneficial for the group to begin building bonds in advance of enrollment.

“So when we get up there as a team when everyone's closer and everyone knows each other, it's just going to bring us together as brothers and teammates,” he said.

Burress also visited with several Notre Dame staff members.

“I talked to (Mike) Denbrock, (Marcus) Freeman, Coach (Mike) Brown, Dre (Brown), Chad (Bowden), all of them,” he said. “I had a great time with all of them; great conversations.

“There were really no messages on this visit. I was just getting reestablished why I went there and just touring the facility and having a great time there with the guys.”

Still, Burress did get an even better feel for Mike Brown, his future position coach.

“He's just a great developer,” the 6-foot-1, 170-pounder said. “He really knows what he's doing. He has a great mind for the game and I'm really excited to get to work with him.”

Burress also appreciated the chance to sit down with Denbrock.

“He was showing us some LSU tape of him over there and it was nice,” Burress said of the Irish offensive coordinator. “I'm excited to have that offense over there. The offense is going to change when we get there, so I'm excited for the whole new offense over there.

Burress and the other commits also spent time recruiting some of the uncommitted prospects like cornerback Mark Zackery IV‍ and wide receiver Derek Meadows‍.

“Just tell them that it's going to be great if you come,” Burress said of the message to the targets. “You know if you come, we're really going to build a great team over here. We can really put the country on notice if we get the whole squad over here that we want to get over here.”

Burress would love to add Meadows to a group that already includes himself, Bettis Jr. and Terry.

“Just him being 6-6, he has a great skillset,” Burress said of Meadows. “Just having great receivers is going to help everybody else and be great for the team and it's going to make everybody better.”

Burress is confident that both Meadows and Zackery were feeling the messages.

“100 percent.”
