Cagan Campbell already had plenty of interest in Notre Dame, which is why the 2018 cornerback made the trip up to South Bend from Alabama for Saturday’s Blue-Gold Game, but after experiencing it for himself, he’s even more interested.

“Everything went good,” the 5-foot-10, 165-pounder from Tuscaloosa said. “The game was great. I enjoyed the atmosphere. Campus was beautiful. All of the coaches were very, very nice and cool. I had a really good day.”

Campbell had the chance to get a good look at everything at Notre Dame.

“When we first arrived, we went to the practice fields,” he said. “We toured the indoor football facility, the weight room. It was all nice, which is what I expected.

“The campus was great. It’s a large campus, but it’s very easy to get around. The campus still has the old tradition to it, which I liked a lot. They have a lot of the old buildings.”

He also enjoyed the spring game.

“It was a really great experience,” the Hillcrest High School standout said. “Half of the stadium was filled up just for the spring game, so I can only imagine what it’s like on a real game day. I really enjoyed it. The players were hyped up. They played great. The coaches said the game went well.”

Campbell had a chance to speak with defensive backs coach Todd Lyght and defensive coordinator Mike Elko while on campus.

“Those talks went very well,” he said. “Coach Elko gave me the things I needed to work on, so I can definitely go home and start practicing the things he told me to work on and hopefully, I can pick up an offer from them.”

Campbell has a handful of offers already from schools like Army, East Kentucky and South Alabama, but said a Notre Dame offer would be huge.

“It would be amazing,” he said. “I’d be more than thrilled to have a Notre Dame offer under my belt. They would be the first Power 5 to offer me.”

Elko and Lyght gave him a good idea of what that would require.

“They said everything was good, they just told me I need to start working more on my back pedal and my hips,” Campbell explained. “(Elko) said he hasn’t seen enough of that just because of how I play. He said he would like to see more of that so he can further his evaluation of me.”

Campbell will have a chance to showcase what he can do next month.

“We start spring football on May 8th. Coach Lyght said he would be up there sometime during the spring to see how my footwork is when he comes down.”
