Film Don't Lie | Ebenezer Ewetade
Notre Dame fans have seen recruiting momentum shift in a good way as of late, but have been patiently waiting for that to translate into commitments from recruits. 4-star edge Ebenezer Ewetade got the ball rolling when he pledged to the Irish today.
A freaky athlete with a vertical over 30 inches who has run a 22.51 200m, Ewetade is relatively new to football and is only scratching the surface of the player he can become.
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 230
Projected Position: Edge (Vyper)
ISD Grade: 91 (4-star)
National Average Grade: 90.3 (4-star)
What he does best:
The first thing that stands out about Ewetade is the twitch. He has flashed an explosive first step, a critical trait for any pass rusher.
I love his motor. Whether it is chasing down plays from the backside or a play that is run in his direction, he fights to get involved in the play. It’s a huge reason why he was able to have 28 tackles for loss as a junior.
He’s long and plays long. There’s a lot of technical improvement he has to make, but he will separate with his punch at the point of attack to defeat blocks.
What he needs to improve:
He has only played football for two years and there’s a lot of room for him to grow. There are some real flashes of violence, but he needs to develop that more consistently with his hands.
He’s certainly a twitchy athlete and he's a beast to have to block with his first step, but his snap anticipation also needs to get better.
What’s his ceiling?
Ewetade has elite tools and those will only stand out more as he physically matures and gets stronger. There’s a reason why a program like Georgia was also in pursuit of him. He has the traits to develop into a certified “dude”.
Watching him reminds me a lot of former Notre Dame target Odafe (Jayson) Oweh, who ended up at Penn State. He was another player who started football late and, like Ewetade, was raw in terms of technique. Ewetade is a bit more advanced than Oweh was as a junior, but could end up becoming the same kind of impact edge rusher.
Oweh developed into one of the best pass rushers in the Big Ten and a late first round pick. Ewetade has that same kind of potential and can get there if he puts in the work at Notre Dame.
