2028 Indiana wide receiver KeiVon Mattox made his way back to Notre Dame earlier this month for the Irish’s home finale win over Syracuse.
“It was pretty fun,” Mattox told Irish Sports Daily. “It was a nice experience. I got to talk to Coach (Mike) Brown, Mr. Tim Brown Jr., and the assistant wide receiver coach also. It was a pretty good experience.
“I would say the tradition was nice. Notre Dame was pretty nice.”
The Brebeuf Jesuit standout enjoyed his chat with the Irish’s receivers coach.
“Coach Brown gave me some good feedback,” Mattox said. “He told me to keep working and control my controllables. I told him about my season and he just gave me some good feedback.
“He was really nice. He gives a lot of good feedback. I'll tell you that right now. I've met him at the Notre Dame Invasion Camp. At first, he told me what I should work on and what I can do to become a better player. Coach Brown is really nice.”
The Indianapolis native was blown away by the atmosphere inside the Stadium.
“The game was fabulous,” he said. “It was fantastic. I love the tradition of Notre Dame. After each play, they would jump in the air, give each other high-fives after a good play. Every time the offense would score or the defense, they would pick a fan up and start doing pushups.
“It was pretty cool. It was really cool. And since it was Senior Night, they were throwing marshmallows. It was really, really good experience. I love the tradition.”
He was also impressed by the Irish’s performance during their 70-7 demolition of the Orange, especially the receivers.
“They would make really good plays,” he said. “A player that really stood out to me was Will Paulding, because I know he's not the biggest, but they figured out how to use him. He was able to get a touchdown and show off his speed and show off his route-running.”
Still a sophomore, Mattox has plenty of time remaining in his recruitment and he sees himself returning to South Bend next year.
“I would love to come back,” said Mattox, who has an early offer from Miami-Ohio. “I have a history of attending Notre Dame camps. My first camp I ever went to was at Notre Dame when I was in middle school. I was able to win the fastest camper.
“And like I said, I went to Irish Invasion camp, which that was pretty fun. I got to go against some of the best competition and meet new people. That's when I met Coach Brown. I just loved it.”
He has a couple other schools in mind for future visits as well.
“I would love to go back to Notre Dame, of course, but also, I would say IU,” he said. “I loved IU. I loved their campus. I loved the coaches. I would say Illinois also. Their coaching staff was really cool.
“Also Vanderbilt. I love Vanderbilt even though it's kind of a small SEC school. I loved how they use small receivers. All the schools I've been to I really love, but those are some of the top schools.”
