2027 WR Julian Caldwell Impressed With First Look At Notre Dame
Notre Dame entered the weekend looking to push for an official visit with Julian Caldwell and made a strong case.
The 2027 Texas wide receiver made his first trip to South Bend for Junior Day as the Irish continue working their way into the next phase of his recruitment.
“It was great,” Caldwell told Irish Sports Daily. “It was a good trip, especially for my first time being there.”
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder spent extended time with wide receivers coach Mike Brown, head coach Marcus Freeman and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock, giving him a clearer look at how the program operates.
Notre Dame has been recruiting Caldwell for a while, but this visit provided his first opportunity to see everything in person.
A key part of the visit centered on the program’s ability to combine elite academics and elite football.
“They were just saying it's really the only school where you can get almost an Ivy League education and play such high level football,” he said. “It's definitely a prestigious program. I love the culture and tradition they got going there.”
The development piece also stood out in his time with Brown.
“He's a developer,” Caldwell said. “That's definitely something I'm looking for.”
He also evaluated how he would be used within the offense.
“They could see me just playing everywhere,” he said. “I'm perfectly capable of playing every position.”
The Argyle High School standout spent time with current players and recruits during the visit, continuing to evaluate how he fits within the program.
“It was very cool,” he said. “We all went to dinner and hung out. I'm definitely very close with a lot of the guys already.”
The next step in the process will be determining whether Notre Dame can secure an official visit as he works through a packed schedule.
Caldwell holds offers from Notre Dame, Texas, Oregon, Texas Tech, SMU, Georgia, Florida State, Miami, Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, Oklahoma and USC among others. He’s set to visit Texas Tech next weekend and Oregon over Easter as he continues working through his spring visits.
He already has official visits scheduled with SMU, Texas, Texas Tech and Oregon and is trying to see if Notre Dame can find a way to fit into that group.
“I've always liked Notre Dame,” he said. “After this visit, they've definitely jumped the list a lot.
“Hopefully I can come back for an OV like midweek or something because I already have a fully booked schedule in June. We'll definitely try to figure it out, but I'm definitely interested in the program, hoping to get back out here soon.”
