2028 Atherton (Ky.) cornerback Grayden Reid‍ isn’t a stranger to Notre Dame and now the feeling is mutual.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder not only grew up watching the Fighting Irish, but he also camped at Notre Dame last summer at Irish Invasion.

It wouldn’t have been a surprise if Notre Dame offered then, but an offer came on Monday as the staff made their way through Kentucky.

“It’s definitely exciting,” Reid told ISD. “I grew up watching Notre Dame play, so it's very exciting.”

The four-star cornerback wants to return to Notre Dame this summer for an unofficial visit after the experience he had last June.

“I definitely could see myself returning this summer,” stated Reid. “I went up there last summer for camp. I did OK at the camp. Definitely wanted to do better. I had a good time down there.”

The Louisville native is well aware of Notre Dame’s recent success at cornerback and that includes knowing the Irish have done well with his body type.

“I definitely like what they're doing with their corners,” explained Reid. “Big, long dudes like Ben Morrison and Leonard Moore. He's a long guy, physical, so I like what he plays. I definitely watch him and take parts of his game and put it in my mind. I like big corners.”

Despite holding more than 30 offers heading into his junior season, Reid isn’t caught up in the hype. His focus is on sharpening his game.

“I think I'm fast enough, strong enough already, so just becoming a better football player,” Reid said. Playing faster, playing more decisive is really what I'm working on.”

As for his strengths, the film shows them.

“Covering and tackling,” Reid stated. “That's probably what I do best. I play physical. I play a physical brand of football, so I feel like being an aggressor is what I feel like I do best.”

When it comes to his recruitment, Reid had a busy spring, visiting Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville and Ohio State.

The trips have been useful as Reid is starting to see what he wants in a program.

“I’m seeing the culture and seeing which school I feel like I can develop into the best player I can be,” Reid said. “Just that aspect of development.”

He’s not slowing down anytime soon. A busy summer slate could include a return visit to Notre Dame along with trips to LSU, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and USC.

And while the offers, visits and attention keep piling up, Reid’s mindset hasn’t wavered.

“It’s definitely motivating,” said Reid. “I want to be the best, so putting in the work every day to stay focused on the main goal. The main goal is not being the best high school player, it's being the best pro.”
