Mabry Enjoys Hiestand Visit
Cole Mabry was certainly excited to visit with Notre Dame offensive line coach Harry Hiestand last week, but the 2018 Irish offensive line commit was also pretty fired up about having his mother cook filet mignon for dinner.
“It was awesome,” the 6-foot-6, 270-pound Mabry laughed. “I need them to come by more often.”
The Brentwood, Tenn., native enjoyed the visit with his future coach.
“It went really well,” said Mabry. “We mostly talked about non-football stuff. I just got to know him a little bit more. He got to talk to my family a little bit more. It went real well.
“He’s a great man. He’s obviously highly-respected by all of his players. I respect him very highly. He’s a good guy. We just talked for a while about random stuff. It was kind of nice to just build that relationship.”
Hiestand gave the Brentwood High School standout even more of an idea of what to expect when he gets to South Bend for good this summer.
“We just talked more about my plans once I got there; about the work ethic I need to bring, what to expect, the evaluation process to see where I’m going to be and that stuff,” Mabry explained.
Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly will be by at some point as well and Mabry should be able to get another fantastic meal out of it.
“He’s coming later on, I’m not sure when,” he said. “That’ll be nice just to get to talk to him more and further that relationship.”
Mabry knows he’ll be eating well on Dec. 20th, when he officially signs with Notre Dame during college football’s first early signing period.
“All of my friends and family are going to be there. It’s going to be pretty cool. It’s actually my sister’s birthday that too, so that’ll be fun. I’m sure we’ll go out to eat some place big too.”
Mabry will be in South Bend this weekend for his official visit.
