2020 WR Jay Brunelle Previews Notre Dame Trip
Jay Brunelle has seen his recruiting profile expand tremendously in recent weeks and the 2020 Massachusetts receiver can add another major program to his interest list after being invited to Notre Dame’s Junior Day this weekend.
“Coach Jeff Quinn came and visited our school, that’s kind of where everything started,” Brunelle explained. “Coach Del Alexander reached out to me via Twitter and basically asked me to come up to campus, so that’s where I’m going this weekend.”
The St. John’s-Shrewsbury High School standout is excited about getting to South Bend.
“To me, I feel like Notre Dame is a great fit for myself,” the 6-foot-2, 205-pound junior said. “I really care about academics and football and my faith. I think the combination of those three at Notre Dame is the highest level possible. That’s what really attracts me to Notre Dame.
“I definitely want to get a nice feel for campus, but also start building a more personal relationship with the coaches, have good conversations and just continue this process.”
Brunelle already has offers from Michigan, Boston College, UConn, UMass, Tulane, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Colgate and Dartmouth.
An offer from the Irish would be a big deal.
“Like I said, I take that combination of faith, academics and football really seriously and an offer from them would mean a lot to me,” said Brunelle.
Brunelle won’t be the only Massachusetts product on campus this weekend. He’ll be joined by 2020 Noble and Greenough tight end Cam Large. The two talked about the upcoming visit on Wednesday.
“Massachusetts this year has some really big-time recruits,” Brunelle said. “There’s a lot of us. There hasn’t really been a class like this in the past, so it’s definitely great to see Massachusetts get put on the map. We don’t really have a lot of respect, but I think we’re getting a lot of respect with the class we have now.”
Brunelle, Large and some of other elite Bay State prospects keep in touch.
“There’s a lot of that, just talking to each other about different schools, connecting with one another and just helping each other out recruiting-wise to put Massachusetts on the map like I said,” said Brunelle.
The talented junior visited Michigan State during the season and made recent stops at Boston College and UConn. He’s planning to get to Duke, Ohio State, Yale, Harvard and Princeton soon.
He doesn’t have a timeline for a decision.
“I think that will depend on when a school like Notre Dame were to offer if they were to offer. I think that would play a big part into it. I definitely don’t really have a structured list right now of my interest level. I think that will definitely play itself out throughout the summer and we’ll see how it goes from there.”
