Notre Dame fans have been excited about the Irish’s last two commitments in the Class of 2020, but nobody is as fired up about offensive lineman Tosh Baker‍ and running back Chris Tyree‍ joining the group as 2020 quarterback commit Drew Pyne‍ (pictured above with Baker).

“It’s unbelievable,” Pyne said after Tyree’s announcement on Friday. “Our class is so good right now. I’m just hyped about it.”

Pyne has been in communication with Tyree for well over a year now and the two became good friends. They had a chance to spend time together in Maryland at last month’s Under Armour Regional Camp.

“Even without pads on, seeing him make his moves was unbelievable,” Pyne said. “No one could even come close to touching him. He was by far the fastest guy there. He’s just an unbelievable athlete, an unbelievable football player and a great kid. He’s the overall perfect package. I can’t wait to be able to strap some pads on and be able to play with him.”

Pyne believes Tyree will be an asset to the Irish offense in multiple ways.

“I think he can help with anything,” the quarterback said. “He’s obviously the number one all-purpose back in the country for a reason. He can run the ball and you’ll always be able to have a checkdown to him.

“When I’m in the pocket, the defense will be scared of Chris getting the ball because he’s so electric and explosive that you really have to worry about him, so it will open up the passing game as well too. Chris will be a huge addition to the offense.”

Pyne has long been fired up about the two tight end commits in the class, Kevin Bauman‍ and Michael Mayer‍, as well as Baker.

“Chris and I talked about Tosh when I met him,” said Pyne. “We were both obviously very thankful to be behind him.”

So far, the defensive class consists of defensive linemen Aidan Keanaaina‍, Rylie Mills‍, Alexander Ehrensberger‍ and Jordan Botelho‍, but it could grow when Braiden McGregor‍ announces his decision on Friday.

“The d-line right now for our class is awesome,” said Pyne. “I’m really hoping we get Braiden tomorrow. Everyone has been saying we got our number one target at almost every position so far.

“The whole deal is just coming together. All of the puzzle pieces are starting to match up. It’s really exciting.”
