2020 Four-Star WR Porter Rooks Looking Forward To First Notre Dame Visit
2020 Providence Day (N.C.) receiver Porter Rooks earned an offer from Notre Dame last June, and it spoke volumes of how much the Irish thought of the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder.
Notre Dame doesn’t offer a lot of kids two recruiting cycles in advance, but the Charlotte native impressed the staff, and the Irish will host Rooks next weekend.
“I haven’t gotten to see the campus at all,” Rooks said of Notre Dame. “I hear a lot about it, so I’m ready to experience what it’s like at Notre Dame. I’m looking forward to taking a look around.”
The Irish were one of the first programs to offer Rooks, and the four-star prospect has started to do his research on the program.
“Every offer is a blessing,” stated Rooks. “I wouldn’t put any specific offer ahead of any of the others. Notre Dame is a very prestigious school and a blessing for that type of school to be looking at me and wanting me to play. It’s great to know I can get a high-level education as well.”
Rooks isn’t the only one from Providence Day to hold an offer from Notre Dame. 2019 linebacker Ositadinma Ekwonu and 2020 defensive end Jacolbe Cowan also hold offers from the Irish.
“We haven’t really talked about it,” said Rooks. “We’ve talked about going up on visits and stuff like that, but not too much. We’re all keeping our options open. We aren’t eyeing down any specific school as a group of three.”
Getting out on visits is essential for Rooks as coaches can’t initiate contact with him, so the chance to build relationships early in the process is crucial.
“Coaches can’t really contact me,” explained Rooks. “Most of the schools that have offered me are showing genuine interest. I just have to find that out when I get on campus.
“I want to see how coaches respond to me and how I respond to the coaches.”
Notre Dame won’t be the only Midwest program Rooks will visit next week as he will make stops in Ann Arbor and East Landing as well.
“I’ll be visiting Michigan and Michigan State,” Rooks stated. “I’m trying to familiarize myself with the school. It will be my first time to all three schools, so I want to get a feel for them, look around and talk to the coaches.
“I think I’ll see practice at all three schools, but I mainly want to get a feel for each school.”
As for his primary offseason goal, Rooks continues to work for more offers and improve his game.
“I’m getting back to the fundamentals from a receiver standpoint,” said Rooks. “I want to get bigger, faster and stronger. I’m focused on the little things and figuring out where I can take my game to elevate it over everyone else.”
Rooks holds offers from over 25 programs which include Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Michigan, NC State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia, Virginia, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.
