BREAKING: 2019 Four-Star OL John Olmstead Headed To Notre Dame
Can Jeff Quinn recruit?
That was the question Notre Dame fans had when Brian Kelly named Quinn offensive line coach in January.
Well, the first domino has fallen in the 2019 recruiting class as St. Joseph’s (N.J.) offensive lineman John Olmstead has committed to Notre Dame.
“He’s a great guy,” Olmstead said of Quinn. “I really like his style of coaching. The other thing I really like about him is that he’s so passionate about the game. I like to see that in a coach because I’m the same way. I love this game. Ever since he got the job, he was the first to contact me. Our relationship is very good. I can’t wait to keep building it.”
The four-star prospect chose the Irish over Michigan, Minnesota, Ole Miss and Rutgers on Friday afternoon.
Olmstead took an unofficial visit to Notre Dame on April 9th, and it was a chance to brotherhood on the team.
“You really see the relationship and the bonding between the offensive linemen on Notre Dame’s team,” Olmstead said. “I have that a lot at my school with my teammates and my offensive linemen. That’s really important to me.
“Those are the guys you’re with 24/7. I like the fact that they’re always hanging out, they’re always with each other. The coach always has the linemen over for dinner, I like that a lot. That’s a big part for me.”
The 6-foot-6, 290-pounder will also look to follow in the footsteps of fellow New Jersey native Quenton Nelson.
“He’s from Jersey, from 20 minutes away from me,” Olmstead said of Nelson. “It was good to relate to a kid who went to Notre Dame, played my position and came from Jersey. He was a good person to talk to.”
Olmstead joins defensive lineman Jacob Lacey, defensive lineman Hunter Spears and cornerback KJ Wallace in the 2019 recruiting class.
