The Updated 2020 ISD Fab 50
Spring ball is under way even if warm weather feels like it’s nowhere close to arriving. Even with the cold weather they’re experiencing in South Bend, spring recruiting is in full bloom so what better time than now than to update the 2020 ISD Fab 50?
I know everyone wants this group to be loaded with Notre Dame targets. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. While the Irish have offered 30 of the 50 prospects, ISD currently only has 12 that we’ve included on ISD’s Notre Dame target list.
That list is always fluid and others could be added, but that’s how it stands right now.
Three of those dozen recruits have been to campus and the Irish are in contention for running back Chris Tyree, wide receiver Jordan Johnson and defensive back RJ Mickens (with a better chance of landing the first two). They also are in on cornerback Jalen Kimber (Will visit in April) and are in the top group for cornerback Clark Phillips. Perhaps they’ll gain some serious traction with some others as well because there is a long time until we get to December, but I know this will be disappointing for those who hoped the Irish would get a big bump from being 12-1.
It’s worth remembering that there will be at least two more iterations of the 2020 Fab 50 so there may be players that Notre Dame has committed or who they are going to land that could end up in the final version. Kyle Hamilton is a perfect example of player like that.
For now, though, every Irish fan should hope they can close with the talented skill players they’re after who are on this list. If they can land two or three of them and maybe add another riser like Hamilton, then I can’t see how everyone who follows the program wouldn’t be thrilled with that.
The updated 2020 ISD Fab 50
- One important point worth mentioning is that the Irish did gets elite prospects like Bryan Bresee, Paris Johnson, Gee Scott, Julian Fleming, Luke Wypler, and Turner Corcoran to visit. They just didn’t have much interest in Notre Dame after the visit (aside from Johnson who visited another time even after committing to Ohio State).
- Only 11 of the group have committed at this point.
- 16 of the 50 are from out west (California, Washington, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona) this year. It’s a really strong year in that region, specifically California. There were only nine recruits from the west who made the Final 2019 Fab 50.
- 17 are from the southeast and only four are from the Midwest. Players like AJ Henning and Rylie Mills were on the first version of the Fab 50, but didn’t make the cut this time around.
- It’s a loaded year for elite running backs. I had eight make the list and there were three more backs that just missed the cut. It’s great at the top and very deep overall.
- It’s a much better year at the quarterback position in my opinion. I only had one quarterback make the 2019 Fab 50 and there are three for 2020 with a couple more I could see rising up later on.
